In November 2018, the Scout Group was devastated to hear of the tragic loss of one of our much loved ex Scouts. Jack was involved in the Scout Group as a Beaver Scout, Cub Scout & Scout from 2013 to 2017. Jack was a wonderful boy, always fun of fun & mischief & he loved his involvement in Scouting. He was a regular attendee at all our camps and activities & we wanted to remember Jack as a Group, in a special way. One of the things Jack always enjoyed at camp was cooking on wood fires & so we decided to build a fire shelter at the rear of our headquarters in his memory. This is a special area for the Group which can be used to just sit & chat around a camp fire or to host a barbeque. The shelter project was supported by the local community and so many of Jack's friends who wanted to help & support us. We are very pleased that future generations of youngsters in the Group will now be able to enjoy this facility which bears Jack's name & we have so many people to thank for bringing the project to a successful conclusion. Almost every organisation we approached for a grant or loan supported us & we are also very grateful to the following people.
Jack's loving family who supported our plans, Mr Glen Todd who built this fantastic facility for the group. County Councillor Mrs Cath Homer who supported the project through her members allowance & Robert Sedgewick from RS Landscaping who did all the blockwork for the shelter. Recently the Group has added more facilities to the rear of the Lookwide Centre with three Pizza Ovens, an area for Tandoor ovens & two new levels of decking. We are also currently constructing an open fire pit area & have also completed a large outdoor Chess board.
The result is we now have facilities that we are sure Jack would have loved to use & we believe this has been a fitting way to remember Jack who we will always miss & remember.
